Youth Academy is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team in providing youth with opportunities to explore their passions in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM)!

The STEM Camp Assistant is responsible to develop and deliver hands-on, educational, and FUN camp curriculum to youth ages 9-13 years in Youth Academy’s Jr. STEM & STEM Teens camp programs.
The individual is responsible for assisting with camp preparations, facilitating, and managing the day-to- day schedule of camp activities, completion and delegation of camp operational tasks and duties, and the safety and supervision of the camp participants. This position is supported by NIC’s Youth & Community
Outreach Liaison (YCOL). Two weeks of paid orientation and preparation are included in the six-week position.

The program runs for 6 weeks beginning June 19th ending July 28th with potential for contract extension. 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Qualifications & Experience: 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

Enthusiastically assists with facilitation of camp activities for ages 9-13 between camp hours of
9am-3pm.

Assists with camp setup and clean up daily.
Interacts with youth in an enthusiastic, approachable manner.
Provides excellent communication and client services to youth and their supporting adults.
Actively promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity in the camp environment.
Communicates effectively with the STEM Camp Leader.
Effectively leads volunteers and appropriately delegates tasks and responsibilities.
Assists with relaying student and parental concerns to the YCOL.
Responds accordingly to conflict and emergency scenarios.
Upholds all COVID19 health and safety guidelines set forth by NIC and the Provincial Health
Office.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school graduation is preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in progress, or a combination of applied experience and education.
Minimum 2 years working with youth in a paid or volunteer role.
A clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check.
Current Standard or Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
A valid driver’s license.
Reliable transportation to/from Comox Valley campus.
Canadian citizenship or valid working VISA.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Demonstrated ability to facilitate age-appropriate educational curriculum.
Strong programming skills (multiple coding languages an asset).
Previous experience facilitating games, and activities for youth.
Effective communication, conflict resolution, problem solving abilities.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Proven leadership capabilities.
Ability to maintain a high level of energy throughout the day.
Considerable ability to take initiative and improvise.
Commitment to maintaining, a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural awareness/sensitivity.
