As a key member of the Saltwater Production team, we are looking for a permanent position for Water Quality
Coordinator to provide full technical support for plankton monitoring and mitigation plans to all saltwater production
areas in Mowi Canada West. This position will be reporting directly to the Feed & Water Quality Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Specific accountabilities include, but are not limited, to:
• Providing technical assistance to the production areas on environmental water quality issues but specifically related
to plankton, zooplankton (i.e. jellyfish identification and quantification).
• Assisting with implementation and roll-out of the plankton monitoring and response plan in association with
production management.
• Offering technical support, training, and advice to sites regarding identification of plankton species, determination of
plankton concentration (cel/ml) as well as correct use of microscopes.
• Flexibility to assist sites in all areas, as required, according to plankton status and bloom situations.
• Based on results, making recommendations and agreeing on actions with site staff and production management
according to the plankton monitoring response plan.
• Ensuring each site is fully equipped with the required plankton monitoring equipment.
• Building and maintaining the standard for plankton sampling equipment and proper handling and use.
• Assisting in design, evaluation, and audits on the current Aeration Mitigation System (AMS).
Qualifications & Experience:
Experience and Qualifications:
• University degree level education.
• Minimum of two years of fish farming experience, especially working on fish farm sites with high plankton challenges
(an asset; not required).
• Ability to identify plankton species and perform cell counts, and based on this interaction, provide clear
recommendations and actions for site staff.
• Good understanding of scientific methods and ability to interpret scientific literature.
• Good communication skills.
• Class 5 Driver's Licence.
• Boat handling skills and qualifications is an asset but not required.
