As a leader in research and services to the BC wild fisheries, salmonid enhancement and aquaculture sectors, we are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a passion for working in the BC seafood sector and a commitment to supporting the development of this important segment of our economy.
BC CAHS is a non-profit society with a mandate to deliver relevant, reliable and timely science-based information for improving and restoring productivity and environmental sustainability in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. We serve all fisheries and aquaculture resource users, beneficiaries and interests including: First Nations, industry, recreational fishers, enhancement groups, federal and provincial aquaculture regulatory agencies, scientists, academic institutions and community organizations. Our research scientists and technical staff have extensive experience in field and laboratory-based research covering a wide variety of interests: Fish Health & Welfare / Wild/Farmed Animal Interactions / Epidemiology / Genomics / Stress Physiology / Environmental Monitoring.
The SCE concept is an international-standard wet lab and laboratory to host world-class research scientists and address critical issues in fish biology, ecology and culture, primarily salmon. The facility will address fish health issues of local, regional and national scope that are important to the producers, fisheries, regulators, the public, and academics taking advantage of made in BC technological advances afforded by Vancouver Island scientists, researchers and stakeholders. The SCE will combine the needs of Indigenous Peoples, recreational fishers, wild fisheries and the aquaculture industry and discover methods to improve and increase the BC seafood harvest.
Funding has been approved through to July 2021. Phase 1 activities (to March 2020) include site development, construction of facilities, securing operational regulatory permits and approvals, and funding access. Contract renewal for Phase 2 (to March 2021) is possible on review of performance.

Qualifications & Experience:
The successful applicant will have:
Project Management Experience
Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and at least two years experience or training in aquatic resources.
Active in the project management field including least 4 years successful management of business development and R&D projects with demonstrated history of successful coordination and completion of projects on time within budget and within scope.
Demonstrated history of planning, executing and completing projects including scope definition, collaborative planning and plan management, risk identification, analysis and mitigation management, change management, costs and time management and reporting, milestone and goal tracking and reporting, sponsor involvement, stakeholder engagement and management.
Demonstrated history of financial management including forecasting, budgeting, analysis and reporting using Sage 50 system.
Demonstrated experience managing the project team including leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams by providing the best working environment including resource planning, task distribution, scheduling, work safety, meetings etc.
Demonstrated understanding and history of collaboration with those that may have influence over the project such as sponsors, stakeholders, industry collaborators, regulatory agencies etc.
Excellent judgement on prioritization and multi-tasking and are comfortable working in a dynamic changing environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage multi-level stakeholders with different project roles and varying levels of influence over the project.
Seafood Industry Experience
At least 2 years experience working in the BC or Canadian seafood sector.
Successfully managed at least four aquatic business or research projects.
Good understanding of the seafood industry in BC specifically and Canada in general.
Good understanding of the provincial and federal regulations for the BC seafood industry.
Good understanding of the culture and research requirements for freshwater and marine organisms.
Excellent technical knowledge of aquatic research and culture systems including water quality.
Demonstrated success in managing all aspects of securing public funding.
Strong technical writing skills.
