The Opportunity:
Western Forest Products is seeking a fully qualified Welder to join our Jeune Landing Forest Operations located on Northern Vancouver Island, B.C.
This is an hourly United Steel Worker (USW) union with a rate of $44.31 per hour and comprehensive benefits.
This position is considered safety sensitive, all successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug test.
What You’ll Do:
Reporting to the Superintendent, Maintenance, the incumbent will utilize journeyman level technical knowledge and expertise to perform complex mechanical tasks in the repair, maintenance, with minimal supervision. All tasks and assignments must follow established procedures in a professional, safe and cost-effective manner.
• Perform welding and mechanical repairs as required.
• Analyze and solve complex technical problems and recommend custom solutions.
• The majority of work is conducted in a Shop Environment with some light administration work occasionally required.
• Plan and prioritize work and material requirements and operate independently.
• Plan and supervise the activities of junior staff assigned to them.
• Play a leading role in implementing and promoting workplace safety and professionalism and recommend positive workplace change.
• Accountable for compliance with all shop policies and safe work practices and performing work in a cost effective and professional manner in line with Western Forest Products Values and Principles.
• Physical Demands include lifting, carrying, pull/push, stairs.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
Who You Are:
• Journeyman Welder’s Ticket.
• A valid class 5 driver's license.
• Safe and professional work practices are mandatory.
• Full understanding of all elements of the job (i.e. shop safety, shop work practices, mechanical systems, troubleshooting complex technical problems, use of all hand and power tools).
• Full understanding of all relevant safety and compliance regulations, policies and generally accepted work practices relating to tanker trailer shop operations.
• Demonstrate ability to read and understand written instructions and communications and write job reports, work order summaries and other record keeping functions.
• Demonstrates self-control under pressure and maintains a positive attitude towards fellow employees.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, exercise good judgment and common sense and conduct him/herself in a professional manner.
• Must be physically fit and of reasonable strength and endurance to perform the duties required.
• Able to perform duties in all weather conditions.
