THE OPPORTUNITY
We are currently recruiting for an Operations Field Planner at our Englewood Forest Operations in North Vancouver Island, BC.
What You'll Do: Our Field Planners are responsible for field activities related to engineering layout and/or silviculture and supporting forest management and sustainability programs at their operations.
Who You Are: This is a great opportunity for someone newer to their forestry career, who has a degree or diploma in Forestry or Natural Resource Management and aspirations to obtain their RPF or RFT designation. We have a clearly defined career path within our forestry team and are always looking to develop our people and promote from within. This role would progress through to a Senior Field Planner or Forester once designation is achieved.
Work Environment: This role is based at our Englewood Forest Operations in Woss, BC. Company housing in Woss is available if desired throughout the work week; however, most of our employees choose to live in Port McNeill and either commute during the week or utilize company housing during the week".
About WFP's Forestry Team: WFP demonstrates an industry leading forest management strategy with a focus on silviculture, climate change, carbon management, biodiversity, public engagement, water and much more. Our Timberlands Operations are primarily located on the north and west portions of beautiful Vancouver Island. We have more than 100 Forest Professionals sustainably delivering timber from our 6 area based Tree Farm Licences and 10 volume based tenures to the 8 manufacturing facilities WFP owns and operates on Vancouver Island.

RESPONSIBILITIES
-Actively participates as part of the Forestry team in field activities related to engineering layout and/or silviculture;
-Assists in the preparation of the various plans and assessments associated with cutblock development including: Site Plans, Harvest, Road, Silviculture and Deactivation Instructions, Cutting Permit Submissions, Road Permit Submissions and related engineering projects, and preparation of other applications as necessary;
-Demonstrates adherence to company safety and environmental processes and procedures
-Understands corporate financial goals and recommend effective and innovative strategies to drive project cost efficiencies;
-Follows and implements principles in support of sustainable, integrated resource management;
-Participates effectively in programs designed to improve safety, reduce operational costs, and maximize value and margins while meeting customer requirements.
Qualifications & Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
-1-2 years of experience in a Forestry Co-op or Field planner positions an asset;
-Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Forestry or related degree in Natural Resource Management;
-Eligible for accreditation with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (RPF or RFT).
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
-Basic understanding and comprehension of Forest Management and Land Use Planning;
-Ability to work in a team environment and possess good communication skills;
-Basic working knowledge of legal regulations and requirements related to BC crown and private land forest operations;
-Experience with forestry software (CENFOR (GENUS), Survey Wizard, Plant Wizard) as well as technology (i.e. LiDAR) would be considered an asset.
