Details:
The positions will play an important role in expanding our educational and outreach into the community. The roles will be responsible for developing and delivering art-making/art-thinking activities for families, youth, and adults to encourage community engagement with our exhibition content.
Working alongside the Executive Director, Curator of Contemporary Art, and the Program Manager the students will assist with the following objectives:
Programming:
Participate in coordination and delivery of outreach programs for children, teenagers and adults that compliment the exhibitions held at the gallery. This includes participating in public community events.
Promote Gallery programming via social media, website updates, newsletters, etc.
Assist in the technical aspects of online programming to ensure a seamless experience for all users.
Curatorial:
Research and compile information pertaining to current and upcoming exhibitions, such as information on artists, artwork, critical discussions, and related content
Create informational content that enhances visitor experiences and their engagement with contemporary art, both in person and online
Provide visitor services in the Gallery Shop and in the Gallery spaces, sharing information on artists, exhibitions and programs, processing sales, and promoting artisans.
These positions provide career-relevant experience for young professionals entering the labour market, particularly within the arts and culture sector and not-for-profit organizations. They will have the opportunity to be creative, problem solve, and work on measurable projects with tangible results.
As organizations move to decolonize their frameworks and engage in anti-racism work, the students will gain first hand experience in cultural safety, creating safe online spaces for IBPOC community members, and communicating with rural, Indigenous communities in culturally sensitive and impactful ways.
Qualifications & Experience:
These are Young Canada Works (YCW) Summer Student positions. You are eligible to apply if you:
-are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in
Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible)
-are legally entitled to work in Canada
-are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
-are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
-will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with
the program
-are unemployed or underemployed
-have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job
-are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the
program and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the
YCW job.
